Project 52 Week 23

I know, I know poor form from me with week’s 22 and 23 being published almost simultaneously I’m sorry I’ll try to keep them more evenly spaced in future.

After the relative nightmare of Week 22 I found this week easy to select as the theme was Straight Out of the Camera something my hatred of the droll of post processing approves of greatly. I’ve mentioned before that if I can’t make a picture work with under 30 seconds of post processing (read a quick crop and maybe exposure adjustment) then I don’t use it.

I know that this is laziness and that the greats all work on their images either in the darkroom or digital darkroom, but I’d far rather be out there shooting than fiddling around in front of the computer wondering if this filter or that filter adds more to the image in front of me.

So with no further waffle I present to you my artsy, rusty bicycle.

Straight out of the camera

As you can see I went for the shallow depth of field effect or bokeh created by using my 50mm lens wide open at f2, otherwise it is uncropped and untouched as it come out of my new to me Canon EOS10D.

I promise that over the next couple of days I will collate some of my other shots from the weekend away and share them here or you can alway pop over to my Google+ profile for all the latest.

I’ve also shared some long exposure shots with Nick Exposed and Seeing Spots, I cannot say for sure if Nick and Shannon will be featuring my shots this time as I was late submitting them but stay tuned to these pages and I’ll get them up here regardless.

Project 52 Week 20

how has another week passed by so quickly, Mrs BC and I are both still fending off colds and sniffles although the kids still seem to be managing to avoid any sort of disease so we should at least be grateful for that small mercy.

Photographically I’ve had a fun week playing with my 50mm f1.8 and the incredibly shallow depth of field that it’s capable of creating. My suggested theme was contrasting colours and I could have chosen any one of dozens of shots that fit in with that but the picture I have chosen amused me mainly because it makes no sense.

Yes it is what it appears to be a 20 pence piece stuck to two partially sucked boiled sweets sitting on a fence post. I’d love to hear your guesses as to why as I’m clueless.

I also had a photo session with my friend Chuckles Les Paul and managed to get a couple of shots I liked.

and my final session of the week involved my dog Bunny Chow having a play session with Chuckles dog April, some of the shots look pretty aggressive but I assure you they were both very happy, if exhausted dogs at the end of it.

I can get your whole head in my mouth, in reality they held this pose for a fraction of a second and it was purely burst mode that ensured I captured it.

Project 52 Week 10

Welcome back and thanks for visiting I know that I’ve been pretty dry on my good old fashioned rants of late but away from the fact that my two year old doesn’t want to eat his dinner until he’s been put to bed, screamed his lungs out till he’s gotten up and only then eaten his dinner (it’s only been a couple of days but it wears thin pretty quick) life in the Bunny Chow household has been sailing pretty smoothly.

Nanny Bunny Chow arrives this weekend anyway so she can assume the role of evil parent who insists that all meals don’t consist of yoghurt and cheese on toast.

Anyway back to photography, this weeks suggested theme from Google+ was depth of field. The ideal way of achieving depth of field is to open up your camera’s aperture to the lowest f-stop possible and you’ll get lovely creamy blurred backgrounds or bokeh but to get those really low f-stops you need really expensive posh equipment or at least equipment I don’t own with both of my camera’s only opening up to f2.8 I was forced to go with Macro and see how I got on. I also forced myself to shoot in colour for a change and am actually pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Depth of Field

 Next weeks theme is Spring/Autumn so I need to think about whether I go with the cliché and find some Daffodil’s (they weren’t in flower last night when I looked anyway) or go on the hunt for something more original.
